Dance Group Activity
This activity was so much fun. We had the idea of using movements and and movement phrases to communicate about belonging and how there are groups who don't feel belonging. Groups were given different songs and had to create movement phrases that demonstrated the different emotions felt by these groups who did not belong. This activity really hit home for me how Dance in the classroom can be used differently and to express different things. Creating this activity also taught me how dance and the arts can be used to teach abstraction and empathizing. Students had to take the complex idea of belonging and break it down into understandable parts and then further into movements. The ability to abstract is important in all aspects of the classroom and this is a great way to introduce it and practice it. Going forwards, I look forward to integrating dance into the class to teach different ideas and give the students the opportunity to grapple with it physically as well as mentally....
